A contest was held during the later weeks of October 2010 to determine what the official name of the community will be. Out of all the entries received, two (PhilWota48 and FilWota48) were chosen as the finalists and of which FilWota48 was chosen as the ultimate winner to represent not only Filipinos in the Philippines, but also Filipinos from all over the world.

The domain name filwota48.com was acquired by WhiteKnight as part of a hosting contract with visionwebhosting.net. Creation of the forum commenced almost immediately.
November 14, 2010
With the forum tweaks completed and a generic skin with little customizations, the forum was first launched on November 14, 2010.
2010-2015
Forum started on 2010. Termination of contract with visionwebhosting was on November 9, 2012 due to extremely poor customer service. Domain moved to filwota.com on January 9, 2013 due to dispute of domain ownership. Forum revival was on January 12, 2013. Reacquisition of filwota48.com domain was on December 22, 2013.
January 9, 2015
The fun lasted 4.5 years. Activities shifted to Facebook from then on.
November 7, 2015
In a move to increase consistency, the Facebook name was updated to match that of the domain. Link was then updated to fb.com/filwota48 on January 12, 2016
